The \u00ab Centre de Lecture Publique et d\u2019Animation Culturelle \u00bb (CELPAC) is the administrative unit of the Centre de Lecture et d\u2019Animation Culturelle (CLAC) network for Mauritius. There are 15 CLACs across the Island. The aims and objectives of the CELPAC are to:<\/p>\n

  1. encourage and promote reading through artistic, cultural and educational activities;<\/li>\n
  2. provide facilities for the development of the rural community in the field of education, health, technology, literature etc; and<\/li>\n
  3. promote local cultural values through cultural and literary activities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    CLAC Services<\/strong><\/p>

    Each CLAC is equipped with a collection of more than 3000 books comprising General collections, Religion, Philosophy, Arts, Mauritianna, dictionaries, reference materials along with newspapers and magazines. Registration to the CLACs is free and open to the public at large.<\/p>

    Apart from providing reading facilities, the CLACs offer a large variety of educational games such as \u201cDes Chiffres et des Lettres\u201d, Domino, Monopoly, Scrabble etc., and DVDs and CDs for the sound intellectual development of subscribers.<\/p>

    The CLACs are active in the promotion of artistic, cultural and educational activities. Some examples are the International Mother Language Day, Abolition of Slavery, Cavadee, Spring Festival, Maha Shivaratree, National Day, Eid Ul Fitr, Ganesh Chaturthi, Divali, Arrival of Indentured Labourers, Christmas Gathering, SLAM workshop, Journ\u00e9e International de la Francophonie, World Book and Copyright Day, La F\u00eate du Pain, Music & Dance Day, Storytelling \/ story writing session, and much more.<\/p>
