Building the future of Mauritius’ Cultural Heritage: Progress at the National Archives and National Library site
The Ministry of Arts and Culture has made significant progress in the construction of a state of the Art building to house the National Archives Dept and the National Library, is a landmark project sprawled over land of 2.82 acres at Réduit Triangle, Moka. This project is a vital step towards preserving the rich cultural heritage of our country and creating accessible spaces for knowledge, research, and learning.
Funded by the Government of India through a Line of Credit USD 13 million.
During a recent site visit, Honourable Mahendra Gondeea, OSK, Minister of Arts and Culture was joined by H.E Mr. Anurag Srivastava, High Commissioner of India to Mauritius. Together, they reviewed the ongoing works, which have already reached 23% completion. The visit enabled direct engagement with engineering teams to address technical challenges and monitor project implementation.
The building will be equipped with modern amenities such as a humidity-controlled environment for preserving archival documents, energy-efficient natural lighting, and modern reading rooms.
The project is expected to be completed by December 2026.
