Strengthening Collaboration with UNESCO to Promote Culture and Heritage
The Minister of Arts and Culture, Hon. Mahendra Gondeea, welcomed Ms. Cristina Cusenza, UNESCO representative, for a productive meeting focused on advancing cultural promotion and arts education in Mauritius.
A key topic was an innovative project centered on the Le Morne Heritage Site, aimed at raising awareness among young people about the history of slavery through modern educational tools such as animations and digital resources.
Ms. Cusenza emphasized the importance of preserving and passing on this historical memory not only in Mauritius but internationally. Consultations with local communities will be held this week to gather insights for developing accessible and engaging educational materials.
Minister Gondeea expressed enthusiasm about deepening cooperation with UNESCO to highlight Mauritius’ heritage and to offer new, dynamic ways for youth to connect with their history.
