Mauritius Embarks on UNESCO Culture|2030 Indicators Implementation

The Ministry of Arts and Culture officially launched the UNESCO Culture|2030 Indicators Workshop, marking a significant milestone in the integration of culture into the national sustainable development agenda.

In his opening address, the Honourable Minister of Arts and Culture, Mahendra Gondeea, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating:
“Our vision is clear: a Mauritius where culture is recognized not only as a reflection of our past but as a powerful force for our future.”

This three-day workshop brings together local and regional experts, government representatives, local authorities, cultural associations, and civil society organisations to analyse the role of culture through a data-driven framework comprising four thematic dimensions and twenty-two indicators.

The implementation of these indicators is expected to provide robust data to inform evidence-based cultural policies, strengthen support for artists and cultural practitioners, preserve the nation’s heritage, and further develop the creative economy as a driver of inclusive and sustainable growth.

The Ministry extends its appreciation to UNESCO for its continued support and collaboration, and reaffirms its commitment to positioning culture as a central pillar of Mauritius’ development.
