Artists First: MASA Begins Its Transformation

The Honourable Mahendra Gondeea, OSK, Minister of Arts and Culture, met with Mr. Gérard Louise, Director of MASA, and Mr. Richard Hein, President of the Board of Directors of MASA. This important exchange laid the foundation for a new way forward, one driven by collaboration, transparency, and a firm resolve to place artists at the centre of the institution.

What emerged from this encounter was a clear and encouraging commitment from both the management and the board of MASA to work hand in hand. The Ministry welcomes this renewed unity and is fully committed to supporting a solid partnership aimed at restructuring MASA into a more effective institution.

One of the key issues addressed was the urgent matter of artists who are still awaiting payment. There is a collective will to act swiftly and respectfully to resolve this long-standing issue, ensuring that artists are treated with dignity.

The meeting also officially launched a process of comprehensive reorganisation of MASA. This is an ambitious yet essential effort to modernise its structure, improve accountability, and make the institution more responsive to the needs of the artistic community.
