Ravanne Workshop at Le Cornu Empowers Young People Through Arts and Culture

More than 30 young people successfully completed a ravanne workshop at the Centre de Le Cornu in Sainte-Croix, an initiative of the Ministry of Arts and Culture aimed at using arts and culture as a positive means of engagement and prevention against the scourge of drugs.

The initiative was financed from the Rs 2 million allocation announced in the latest Budget to support cultural and artistic activities contributing to drug prevention efforts.

At the closing ceremony, participants received a certificate as well as their own ravanne, marking the successful completion of their training.

The Minister of Arts and Culture, Hon. Mahendra Gondeea, congratulated the participants for their commitment and perseverance throughout the programme. He emphasised that the initiative went beyond learning how to play a traditional instrument.

Through such programmes, the Ministry aims to provide young people with a passion, discipline and a positive alternative, while enabling them to develop skills which may eventually open the door to further artistic development and even professional opportunities.

The closing ceremony was attended by the Vice-President of the Republic and Members of the National Assembly representing the constituency.

The Minister expressed his appreciation to the National Agency for Drug Control (NADC), the Nelson Mandela Centre for African Culture and the Municipal City Council of Port Louis for their valuable collaboration in the implementation of the programme.
