Mauritius Commemorates the 126th Birth Anniversary of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam

A series of commemorative activities was held to mark the 126th birth anniversary of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, paying tribute to the life and legacy of the Father of the Nation and his contribution to the development of modern Mauritius.

The commemorations began with the reopening of the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Memorial Centre for Culture at Plaine Verte, an institution dedicated to preserving and promoting the memory and legacy of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam.

The programme continued with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Port Louis Waterfront, where tribute was paid to the former Prime Minister and key figure in the country’s journey towards independence.

The commemorative events culminated at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Memorial at Kewal Nagar, a place deeply associated with his life and memory.

The Minister of Arts and Culture, Hon. Mahendra Gondeea, participated in the different activities held throughout the day, alongside other dignitaries, officials and members of the public.

The commemoration provided an opportunity to reflect on Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam’s role in the construction of the Mauritian nation and to honour the values and vision associated with his public life.
