Louvre Expertise Supports the National History Museum of Mahébourg Project

The Minister of Arts and Culture, Hon. Mahendra Gondeea, met with Mrs Dominique de Font-Réaulx, an expert mandated by the Musée du Louvre, during her one-week mission to Mauritius.

The visit forms part of the ongoing project for the National History Museum of Mahébourg and focuses particularly on the museographic assessment of the institution and the development of its scientific and cultural project.

The rehabilitation of the museum is a major heritage initiative which received an allocation of Rs 100 million in the latest Budget, demonstrating Government’s commitment to preserving and enhancing the country’s historical and cultural heritage.

During her mission, Mrs de Font-Réaulx is bringing her expertise to the reflection surrounding the future development of the museum, with a view to ensuring the appropriate preservation, interpretation and presentation of its collections and history.

Hon. Gondeea welcomed this collaboration and underlined the importance of drawing on recognised international expertise for a project of such significance to Mauritius.
