Commemoration of the 191st Anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery: Collaborative Memorial and Digital Initiatives
Launch of the Digital Heritage Animated Videos at Le Morne
📍 Le Morne Heritage Trust Fund officially launched digital heritage animated videos of Le Morne Cultural Landscape . These videos aim to share the history of slavery, resistance, and freedom with young generations through accessible and educational digital tools.
The Ministry expressed its gratitude to Ms. Louise Haxthausen, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa, for her presence and the ongoing support of UNESCO. Appreciation was also extended to the Netherlands Funds-in-Trust, which funded this project.
Inauguration of the Memorial Programme at the Intercontinental Slavery Museum
📍 At the Intercontinental Slavery Museum, a memorial programme titled “Reclaiming the Narrative: A Journey Towards Emancipation” was launched. The programme highlights the life journeys of Constance Couronne and Furcy Madeleine, showing how history and memory serve as forms of justice.
The Ministry thanked the Australian High Commission in Mauritius, and Her Excellency Ms. Kate Chamley, Australian High Commissioner, for their commitment and vital support.
